Client: Codex
Writer: Dick Fitzhugh
Art Director: Jean Marcellino
Agency: Lord, Geller, Federico, Einstein
Photographer: Donald Miller
When you leaf through the kinds of publications this client wanted to appear in, you rarely see an image of a believable human being. Most "testimonial" advertising uses pictures with people who look incredibly posed and phony. We tried to go completely the other way. Donald Miller shot real people (from the agency, friends, etc.) actually talking to an off-camera interviewer- on 35mm film with intentionally out of focus elements in the foreground. We then got blown up c-prints which we put through a low-tech photo copier- pushing the color "off." The effect was startlingly credible, I think, reflecting a mood of immediacy. |
