IBM wanted to tell the largest possible service story. They had done a previous ad picturing a big blue umbrella, but canned it when some insiders complained that it implied a too big, too monopolistic position (boy, was that another age!) Bob and I arrived at this nice, non-threatening pillow solution in about three minutes. I wish all ad concepts would come that effortlessly.
Awards: Stephen E. Kelly (finalist), Adweek "Ten Best Newspaper Ads of 1983," ANDY (single and campaign), 1984 International Advertising Festival of New York (Gold Medal, "Best Corporate Ad"), Communication Arts, Clio. |
